About Fluidstack
At Fluidstack, we build the compute, data centers, and power that will fuel artificial superintelligence. We supply GWs of compute capabilities to the world’s biggest AI Labs at industry-defining speeds.
Our team is small, fast, and obsessed with quality. We own outcomes end-to-end, challenge assumptions, and treat our customers' problems as our own. No task is beneath anyone here.
There are a few thousand people who will shape the trajectory of superintelligence. Come and be one of them.
About the Role
The Data Center Structural Engineer is a core member of Fluidstack's Design and Engineering team. You will support the structural engineering workstream across a multi-site, multi-state development portfolio from early-stage site screening through design, permitting, and construction completion.
This is an owner/developer role. You will work alongside senior engineers, coordinate with geotechnical and civil teams, and contribute to technical alignment across GCs and project teams. You will develop deep expertise in structural systems, foundations, and building envelopes across some of the largest data center campuses in development.
ResponsibilitiesSite Evaluation & Due Diligence
- Support structural due diligence for greenfield and conversion sites: foundation conditions, existing structure assessments, and geotechnical constraints
- Review geotechnical reports and assist in assigning structural design actions based on soil bearing capacities, settlement risk, and seismic classifications
- Assist in identifying structural cost risks during site selection, including retrofit complexity for conversion facilities
- Evaluate site suitability for large-scale structural systems, heavy equipment loads, and critical infrastructure requirements
Design & Standards
- Apply and enforce structural basis of design, master specifications, and standard details for Fluidstack's campus portfolio
- Support coordination with external structural consultants from schematic through IFC; review deliverables and flag quality issues against established standards
- Apply knowledge of ACI, AISC, ASCE 7, and other industry-relevant design codes and standards across all project phases
- Assist in developing foundation strategies, structural systems selection, and phased delivery sequencing for large-scale campus developments
- Coordinate structural scope with civil, MEP, and architectural design teams, supporting alignment on load paths, equipment pads, rooftop mechanical supports, and utility penetrations
- Contribute to structural systems design including steel framing, concrete foundations, tilt-up construction, and pre-engineered metal buildings
Permitting & Regulatory
- Support structural permitting across jurisdictions: building permits, special inspections, and structural observation requirements
- Assist in coordinating with local building departments, peer reviewers, and third-party inspectors
- Track permit schedules as part of the overall project critical path
- Flag regulatory risk including seismic design categories, wind exposure, snow loading, and jurisdictional code amendments
Construction Support
- Review contractor submittals, RFIs, and field conditions for structural scope
- Conduct periodic site visits and document structural construction quality and code compliance
- Support management of design changes and change order scope for structural work
- Assist with structural closeout, as-builts, and acceptance coordination with local authorities and special inspection agencies
Basic Qualifications
- B.S. in Civil Engineering (Structural focus)
- 4+ years of structural engineering experience, including work on data center development projects
- Experience in mission-critical building design (steel and concrete structures)
- Professional Engineer (PE) license, or active pursuit with expected licensure within 6 months
- Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, ETABS, RISA, and RAM Structural Systems
- Working knowledge of IBC, ASCE 7, ACI 318, and AISC standards
- Willingness to travel to project sites across the US (estimated 20-30%)
Preferred Qualifications
- M.S. in Civil Engineering (Structural focus)
- Experience in hyperscale data center, large-scale industrial, or mission-critical facility development
- Familiarity with FM Global structural and equipment anchorage requirements
- Experience with pre-engineered metal buildings (PEMB) and tilt-up concrete construction
- Owner/developer-side experience (vs. pure consultant or EPC)
- Familiarity with raised floor systems, equipment pad design, and overhead MEP support structures common to data center environments
Benefits
- Competitive total compensation package (salary + equity).
- Retirement or pension plan, in line with local norms.
- Health, dental, and vision insurance.
- Generous PTO policy, in line with local norms.
The salary range for this position is $150,000 - $200,000 per year, depending on experience, skills, qualifications, and location.
